On 29 June, the EURELECTRIC Working Group “Environment & Society” held an internal seminar in Finland, “Society in 2050” with the objective of assessing what the “electrical society” could look like by mid century. “It is important to look not only at which technology will be used to produce electricity, but also to understand the type of individual who will be using electricity in 2050”, said the Working Group Chairman Martti Hyvonen.

On 21 April the EURELECTRIC Working Group on Environment & Society held a seminar in London on Mental Health at Work and Energy Efficiency and Health. The event focussed on the impact of stress at work on an individual’s well-being, resilience programmes for change management and stress awareness, before moving on to address the issue of ‘fuel poverty’ and the attendant benefits that promoting energy efficiency can have on improving households’ health and safety standards.

Meeting in plenary on 1-2 April, the European Parliament adopted with a large majority an own-initiative report on Health Concerns Associated with Electromagnetic Fields, drafted by Belgian Liberal Democratic group MEP Frédérique Ries. The non-legislative resolution addresses, inter alia, exposure to electric power lines.
